Foothill College educators spent a lovely October afternoon together exploring the Reading Apprenticeship framework as part of their year-long journey of Professional Learning through 3CSN’s Faculty Teaching Learning Academy. The afternoon started with networking and lunch; President Thuy Nguyen welcomed the group and joined in for lunch and learning.

Once the group set the norms for the workshop, facilitators and
participants collaborated in generating a reading strategies list; the list then became a starting point for problem-solving with Chemistry problems. The problem-solving routine, Thinking Aloud in Pairs for Problem-Solving, engaged the group in rich discussions regarding disciplinary ways of thinking and inquiring while also encouraging the group to share ideas for integrating Reading Apprenticeship into their various learning contexts.
