2014-2015 Reading Apprenticeship Project Scholarship Application Released
Our new First Year Seminar course, and the faculty professional learning that accompanies it, are based on Reading Apprenticeship principles. Our whole campus is engaging in metacognitive conversation!
My VP of Instruction asked me to create a new basic reading course for our struggling students. I convinced her to let me begin a Reading Apprenticeship initiative to work with my colleagues across the disciplines instead.
We decided to provide all of our tutors with Reading Apprenticeship training. I have never seen the learning center so alive with productive conversation!
I realized that Reading Apprenticeship was the missing link for making Problem Based Learning work in my Biology classes. Now I am on a mission to get other STEM instructors involved.
Reading Apprenticeship is changing California Community Colleges. This is your chance to join the movement.
3CSN and the Reading Apprenticeship Project are now accepting campus team applications for Reading Apprenticeship professional development for 2014-2015. Participants become part of an ongoing, sustained, and supportive community of professional learners working together to support adult students’ academic literacy development in discipline-specific contexts.
The application is linked below. Higher Priority will be given to colleges that “match” 3CSN scholarships by providing financial support for the professional learning plan and to teams representing a mix of disciplines.
Deadline for submission: Tuesday, April 1, 5:00pm
